In March of 2011, Karen received a month-long fellowship as Artist-in-Residence at the Global Arts Village/Center for Culture and Consciousness in New Delhi, India.

Here she developed and taught a new master class, Beyond the Beautiful Voice: The Art of Performance, employing her own methodology in the art of stagecraft for the first time. She later renamed her method Stagekraft, keying off the German word for craft, Kraft, and the double K in her name.

At the conclusion of her formal residency, Karen was invited to spend another two weeks in Delhi as guest of the German Ambassador to India, Thomas Matussek and his wife Ulla (a classical singer with whom she staged several Weimar-themed performances). Favorite events included experiencing Holi, singing in the Taj Mahal between guided tour groups, and visiting the sacred city of Varanasi.

Events took place as follows:

  • March 9, 2011 ~ Tea for Two with Ulla Matussek (soprano) and Felix Hofmann (piano) at The German Embassy, New Delhi.
  • March 24, 2011 ~ Berlin Night with Ulla Matussek (soprano), Felix Hofmann (piano) and introducing the Arjun Gupta Jazz Trio at The German Embassy, New Delhi.
